to learn, you must not have preconceived notions. to learn, you must live in the moment, and absorb everything provided to you.
but it's much, much easier said that done. as much as you want to live in the moment, each moment passes you by without a backwards glance, and you're still so wrapped up in something that perhaps you should learn to let go of. of course it goes without saying that once the moment has passed, that's where the lesson lies. was the outcome good or bad for you? do you regret whatever happened? would you do it again? did you grow? in short, its what we call learning. a lesson, no matter bad or good - because if you truly want to learn from an experience, you notice what you did wrong or right - decide to do it again, or figure out what you need to do differently. you imbibe those changes in your life and take a step closer to becoming who you are meant to be.
one conversation with nana puts everything into perspective very, very clearly. he asked me three questions. who's the best person? what's the best time? what's the best thing? i, not taking him seriously, answered ambi avvi/thathi, best time is spent with loved ones, and best thing is food ... or something along those lines, honestly. but he told me i'm not using my brain. the best person is who you're with at the moment. the best time is now. and the best thing is whatever you're doing at the moment.
from now on, i vow to live by this. that's how you pour your heart and soul into every moment of your life. thanks, nana. for opening my eyes.
